This untitled work was made by Horacio Garcia-Rossi, but we can only guess when. It presents a grid of circles, each bisected by one or two lines. Garcia-Rossi was an Argentinian artist, part of a wave of South American artists that challenged traditional art forms and engaged with new visual languages. During the 1960s, Argentina experienced a period of political and social upheaval. Artists were questioning established norms and experimenting with abstraction and geometric forms to express new ideas about society and culture. The repetitive nature of the composition may critique the increasing standardization of modern life or perhaps express a yearning for order amidst chaos. Garcia-Rossi’s precise construction can be seen as an attempt to create a new visual order.
