Walter Leblanc created this intriguing piece, Torsion Mobilo Statique B.702, with its play of lines and colors. I'm thinking about the artist standing there, brush in hand, making each of these lines, deciding when to shift from one color to the next. What thoughts might have crossed their mind as they made the work? You know, painting is a conversation, and the material aspects of art-making are its language. Look at how these blacks and whites graduate to the reds and blues. There's something kind of tender about that transition, like a shift in mood. It reminds me a bit of Bridget Riley's Op Art, but with a more human, handmade feel. Artists are always riffing off each other, whether they know it or not. And that's the beauty of painting, it's an ongoing exchange, a continuous conversation. There are no fixed meanings, just a constant flow of ideas, feelings, and interpretations.
