Walter Leblanc made this ‘Torsion Mobilo Statique B.702’ with a super process-led approach; the repeated marks create this optical effect, kinda like when you accidentally stare at the sun. There's a real tension between the flat surface and the illusion of movement, right? The colors - blacks fading to white with red and purple in the middle - add to the visual vibration. I get the sense that he wasn't trying to hide the making of it, you can really see the repetitive process. Look closely, you can see how each line slightly differs, creating a handmade feel that contrasts with the mechanical, almost digital, look of the piece. It reminds me a bit of Bridget Riley's explorations of perception, but with a more tactile, crafted quality. Ultimately, it's a piece that invites you to get lost in its visual rhythm, questioning what you see.
