J.A. Jerichau II made this notebook page, Notater, at an unknown date with ink on paper. The artist's hand moves across the page, leaving behind a trail of dark ink, and forming into words. The off-white of the paper contrasts with the deep brown of the spine. It's the kind of material that feels good in your hands, with a slight toothiness that grabs the light just so. See the water stains on the bottom right? They tell a story of time, chance encounters, maybe even accidents. It reminds me of Cy Twombly's scrawls, or even some of Basquiat's notebook pages. There's a sense of urgency, of capturing thoughts before they disappear. Art, like a good conversation, is all about exchange, influence, and the ongoing dialogue between artists across time. It’s like a secret language, where meaning isn't always fixed but open to interpretation.
