Here’s Vasarely's CHOKK, painted with geometrical forms and gradated color on a canvas, though I’d love to know what year. I can imagine the act of painting this piece, and I sympathize with the artist. He’s carefully building up these forms, with precise lines and color gradations that must take a lot of patience. The paint looks thin, almost airbrushed, which adds to the clean, futuristic feel of the artwork. The color relationships here are key; they create depth, movement, and visual vibration. Like that central sphere with the bullseye pattern in red, black, and white—it seems to pull you into another dimension. It reminds me a little of what Bridget Riley was up to, and so many other painters exploring perception in the mid-20th century. Artists are always in conversation with each other, across time, exchanging ideas, and inspiring each other’s creativity.
