Victor Vasarely made this painting, Maamor III, with flat, geometric shapes in various colors. I love how Vasarely turns geometry into a playful illusion. It's all about process, you know? How do these colors interact? How can simple shapes trick the eye? The color palette is pure geometry, each color perfectly flat, and sharply delineated. Look closely, you can see the way the squares and parallelograms fit together, like a puzzle. There are also the little diamond shapes in each of the square spaces, so the overall image has a very mathematical and structured feel. All these elements seem to shift and move, creating a sense of depth. It’s like the painting is breathing, expanding, and contracting all at once. Vasarely's work reminds me a lot of Bridget Riley, they both make the viewer question their perceptions. Art is about embracing ambiguity.
