Face 1965

This painting by Rene Portocarrero, titled Face, is a beautiful example of how paint can bring a face into being. What was Portocarrero thinking as he made this? I think the face comes into being as a play of forms and colors, creating a mask-like visage. It has this dream-like quality. For me, this artwork is a reminder that artists are in ongoing conversation, sharing ideas across time and inspiring one another.
