This artwork, Bouche Sperdument, by Modest Cuixart, seems to be made with layers of dark paint and delicate scratched lines. It really speaks to the idea that art is a journey, a process of adding and taking away. Looking closely, I see the physical presence of the medium, how Cuixart uses a limited palette of browns to create a sense of depth and texture. The lines are scratched into the surface, revealing the layers beneath. Notice that small white circle, a single bright moment along the edge of the form. I think it’s a great example of how a simple mark can transform a piece, creating a focal point and adding a touch of mystery. This kind of mark-making reminds me of Cy Twombly's work, where the process is so visible. Both artists embrace ambiguity and suggest that art is less about answers and more about opening up possibilities.
