Here is what I have for you: Mircea Cantor made 'NIDO' with what looks like a ping pong table, a wire basket, and a whole lot of eggshells! The floor is covered in fragments, like snow maybe, and a basket of whole eggs sits dead centre. There's something about the tension between the crisp geometry of the table and the chaotic scattering of the shells that grabs me. The table, with its promise of a game, is undermined by the broken shells, which also cover the floor, creeping up the walls even, creating this feeling that something has already happened, like after a party maybe. Then there's the basket of whole eggs in the middle - this little island of potential - surrounded by all this brokenness. It makes me think about art, how we make it from fragments, from broken things. Like Schwitters said, "everything an artist spits is art"! Artmaking is a messy process, but then maybe that's the point?
