Tea Jorjadze's 'Untitled' sculpture is made from wood and an indeterminate grey material which sits somewhere between surface and void. It's an unusual piece which is difficult to immediately categorize. I think it might be called post-minimalist, but labels can be so misleading! I find myself wondering about the artist's process. How did they go about constructing the piece? Did they start with a clear plan, or did the form emerge organically through experimentation and intuition? I see a kind of built-in ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations and meaning over fixed readings. The two wooden containers seem to be both solid and hollow; they contain nothing yet suggest a potential. The pale blue area is a void, but one that reflects light. Maybe this is where painting and sculpture meet, in a kind of embodied expression that embraces not-knowing. I like that.
