This radiant blue box, "Lost Space," was made by Guy Mees. I feel this artwork glows not just with color but with the patience of its making. Look closely, and you'll see a textured surface, almost like a low-resolution screen—an array of tiny squares creating a luminous field. It's like the whole artwork is breathing, pushing light outwards from some unseen source, maybe from within the gallery space. I wonder if Mees ever felt like he was losing himself in this blue, like the painting was a portal. Did it ever occur to him that he was actually creating the portal itself, a space to be found again? It kind of reminds me of Blinky Palermo's color fields; maybe they’re all in conversation up there in painting heaven. I think of painting as a constant conversation, a back-and-forth across time, where the dialogue never quite ends, and that’s something that can bring endless interpretation and meaning to an artwork.
