Guy Mees made this light sculpture, "Lost Space," and what's interesting is how he makes the most of simple materials. It's all about the glow, right? This feels less like sculpture and more like a painting that’s been inflated into three dimensions, with the light source from within casting an ethereal hue onto its surroundings. The choice of blue is so specific, it's not quite melancholic, more like a memory. The texture, a gentle undulation across the surface, pulls you in. It reminds me of Dan Flavin, but warmer. And maybe that’s what I like most – Mees isn't afraid to let the light get a little messy, a little personal. It's an exchange of ideas, a conversation across time and space. Art doesn’t have to be serious; it can be playful and still provoke thought.
