Angela Bulloch put together Chain A 2:1:30:5, a sculpture that's got these wooden boxes, each shining with its own light. It’s like she’s thinking about how we build things, both in art and in life, piece by piece. I can almost see her in the studio, maybe tweaking the colors, figuring out the right balance of wood and light. It reminds me of a Mondrian, but instead of paint, she's playing with light and structure. The wood gives it this grounded, earthy feel, but then you've got this electric blue and yellow—totally buzzing. There's a real tension there, this push and pull between the natural and the artificial. Bulloch, like other artists, builds on what’s come before, always finding new ways to make us look at the world. With this work she is maybe telling us that art can be solid and structured but also full of light and surprise.
