This is Gerwald Rockenschaub’s "Object with blower", an environment made out of inflatable plastic, and the first thing that strikes me is its strangeness. It has a slightly padded quality, the kind that makes you want to touch it. But then you have to wonder, why this? What’s the thinking behind creating this puffy space? Rockenschaub might be thinking about the spaces we inhabit, and how they affect us. Perhaps he's thinking about minimalist sculpture, but with an added dimension of human interaction. The blower keeps it inflated, but also keeps it alive, so that even though it's just plastic, the air moving within the structure gives it a weird kind of life. The walls might feel like a bouncy castle, but they also feel like a place for contemplation. It looks like it could be a place of refuge. And that's what I like, it's not just one thing, it's a whole bunch of things all at once.
