Editor: This is Derek Boshier's "Plan 1" from the Tate Collection. It's a very striking image. I'm immediately drawn to the geometric shapes and the limited colour palette of red and black. How do you interpret this work? Curator: The piece is fascinating in its exploitation of spatial relationships. Note the interplay between the photographic imagery at the top and the more abstract forms below. Consider how the stark contrast and clean lines create a visual tension. Does the composition itself evoke a sense of order, or perhaps disruption? Editor: I see what you mean. The shapes do feel disconnected from the photographs somehow. I hadn't considered that tension. Thanks for pointing that out.
