Verena Loewensberg made this geometric composition, maybe a screen print or painting, with black, white, and red. It’s a puzzle, a visual game that makes you want to trace its lines. The black and white stripes create a rhythm, a kind of syncopated beat. And then bam! The red squares jump out, like someone added a spicy chord to the song. I love how the whole thing looks so precise, almost mechanical, but there's a handmade quality to it, too, that makes it feel human. It is like the painting is talking back to constructivism, bringing a sense of play to a more serious project. It reminds me of Bridget Riley’s Op Art or maybe even some Sol LeWitt wall drawings, but Loewensberg brings a unique, playful sensibility to these explorations of geometry and perception. It's a reminder that art doesn't always need to be heavy, it can be light, fun, and still make you think.
