This is an ‘Untitled’ artwork by Agostino Bonalumi made with some kind of shaped canvas or support, and then painted a monochrome blue. Looking at the sphere emerging out of the canvas, I imagine Bonalumi as a sculptor who paints, or maybe a painter interested in volume. What does it mean to paint a sphere on a sphere? It makes me think about the ways the light falls on the surface, creating gradients of color and reflections. The whole painting then seems to be about surface tension. It’s a very particular kind of painting, one that thinks through architecture. I imagine Bonalumi in conversation with other artists, sharing ideas and approaches. I imagine him inspiring other artists to explore new ways of seeing and experiencing the world. After all, each artist brings their unique perspective, contributing to a diverse and ongoing exchange of ideas.
