Maria Bozoky made this watercolour and ink painting, Yvette and the Ocean, in her own time. I love that the ocean and the figure seem to merge, all blues and pinks bleeding together. It’s so open, a real process of discovery right there on the paper. Looking closely, you can see how Bozoky uses the ink to create these outlines, like a wireframe holding the colours in place. See how she scumbles the watercolour washes? It gives the image this incredible luminosity. The way the colours pool and blend, it's like watching light shift across water. The lines around the figure almost seem to vibrate, as though Bozoky is trying to capture a sense of movement. It’s how the ocean feels when you’re actually there, all that shimmering energy. Bozoky reminds me a little bit of outsider artist, Madge Gill, who had this incredibly raw, intuitive way of working. Both of them show us how art can be this direct, unfiltered expression of an inner world. I think it's a reminder that sometimes, the most powerful art comes from just letting go and seeing what happens.
