This is a double-page drawing from 2017 by Alevtyna Kakhidze, created using ink on paper. The stark contrast between the white background and the linear quality of the drawing immediately captures the eye. The composition is divided into two distinct halves: the left page filled with writing enclosed in cloud-like forms, the right with more open space. Here, schematic figures and symbols give the feeling of a visual stream of consciousness. Kakhidze uses line, shape, and form to engage with themes of communication and conflict. The juxtaposition of text and image prompts us to ask how meaning is constructed in a world saturated with signs. In a semiotic sense, the work functions as a network of signs where words and figures act as codes to be deciphered. Consider how the artist uses free association to challenge fixed meanings. By doing so, Kakhidze invites us to contemplate the instability inherent in our systems of representation.
