David Michael Hinnebusch made "Brin and Glare at It" with what looks like acrylic or maybe oil, and a whole lotta energy! The colours kinda explode, don't they? A big gloopy mess, but somehow it works. You can almost feel Hinnebusch just letting loose, letting the paint do its thing. I love how raw and immediate this piece feels. The paint is slapped on, thick in some places, thin and drippy in others. There's a real physicality to it, like you could reach out and touch the textures. Look at that big black outline, like it's holding everything together, just barely! It makes me think of, like, a wild Cy Twombly, but with more teeth! "Brin and Glare at It" doesn't try to be pretty or perfect. It's messy, it's loud, and it's full of life. And that, to me, is what makes it so damn interesting.
