Editor: "Fill More," created in 2017 by David Michael Hinnebusch. There's such a restless energy about it. So much vibrant color and chaotic strokes, and a lonely nude figure stands calmly above all this movement... What do you see here? Curator: What don’t I see?! It's a whirlwind, isn't it? Makes me think of cityscapes dissolving into emotional landscapes. That lone figure reminds me of an oracle trying to make sense of the pandemonium below, desperately trying to cling to calm in a world hurtling towards...what, exactly? Maybe toward being 'filled more', whatever that means. What do you think that title means? Editor: Maybe "fill more" is a kind of instruction—a comment on our culture of excess, always wanting more and more? Or maybe it is pointing at a hope of filling oneself more and more with sensation? Curator: Yes, yes! A double entendre perhaps? And isn't that frenetic brushwork just gorgeous? Hints of graffiti, expressionism...I bet Hinnebusch was having a *moment* when creating this. You know, a creative outpouring. A need to empty out, by filling. Does that make sense? Editor: It absolutely does. So many layers... of paint, of meaning...I keep seeing something new. Thank you. Curator: My pleasure. It’s a gift that keeps on giving, this piece. It dares you to ask: What *am* I filling my life with?
