Camilla d’Errico’s ‘weaver’ shimmers into being through a delicate layering of colour and tone. There’s a real sense of discovery in the way the image is built up, like watching a Polaroid slowly develop, or a memory come into focus. The surface has a smooth, almost porcelain-like quality, but up close you can see tiny flecks and variations. Look at how the strands of hair seem to flow into the honeyed background. Each mark appears to build upon the last, creating depth and dimension. And those fuzzy little bees, perched atop her head like living jewels – they’re almost tactile, aren’t they? The contrast between their soft, fuzzy bodies and delicate wings makes you want to reach out and touch them. It’s the kind of painting that feels both timeless and contemporary, reminding me of Mark Ryden’s surreal whimsy. It's not about answering questions, but about embracing the endless possibilities of seeing and feeling.
