This stereoscopic photograph by Jeremiah Gurney depicts Samuel F. B. Morse, the inventor of the telegraph and co-developer of Morse Code. The image was taken in 1869-1872 and shows Morse in a formal portrait, sporting a long white beard and several medals on his coat. The image format was common for the time and offered viewers a three-dimensional illusion when viewed with a stereoscope. This photograph is part of the Minneapolis Institute of Art's collection.
