Editor: This is Jack Gould’s small, untitled photograph, showing laundry hanging behind a modest house. It looks so ordinary, but also really intriguing. What jumps out at you? Curator: For me, it's the everyday labor embedded in this image – the literal labor of laundry, but also Gould's labor in capturing and presenting this scene. How does the materiality of the photographic print itself—its size, its tone—affect our consumption of this domestic scene? Editor: That's interesting. It makes me think about the value we place on different kinds of work, especially the unpaid labor that sustains daily life. Curator: Exactly! And isn't the act of photographing itself a form of labor, transforming the mundane into something worthy of attention? Editor: That's a perspective I hadn't considered. Thank you! Curator: My pleasure. I learned something, too!
