Editor: So, this is an initial, or 'lettrine', the Letter L, artist unknown. It's intriguing. The figures feel rather grotesque, but playful too, like mischievous sprites from a fever dream. What do you see here? Curator: It's wonderful, isn't it? The artist is clearly having fun! I love how the rigid structure of the letter is subverted by these wild, almost manic figures. The whole thing dances on the edge of chaos. I imagine this letter introducing a tale both grand and slightly unhinged. Don't you think? Editor: Absolutely, it’s a perfect visual prelude to something unexpected. Curator: Right? Letters can be portals to whole worlds.
