Editor: Here we have David Leverett’s print titled "Winter (trial proof)." The complex layers of color create these fascinating geometric shapes. I'm curious, what stands out to you about this piece? Curator: Well, as a "trial proof", its emphasis lies in the process. Note the grid faintly visible beneath the overlaid patterns. This reveals Leverett's engagement with printmaking’s inherent structure and the labor involved in its creation. How does this layering speak to the "Winter" title? Editor: Perhaps how winter obscures the landscape in layers of snow and ice? I never thought about the grid as part of the art, but now I see it as integral to the process. Curator: Precisely. The tension between the planned grid and the expressive, almost chaotic, overlay is the point, isn’t it? It prompts us to think about the labour and materials used in the art-making.
