Editor: This is David Leverett's "Summer (trial proof)", and it makes me think about heatmaps. What do you see in this piece? Curator: I see a critique of idealized landscapes, perhaps. The grid structure and warm hues could represent the commodification and surveillance of nature under late capitalism. Editor: Commodification? How so? Curator: The geometric shapes and repetitive patterns suggest a systematic mapping, transforming the organic into a resource to be managed and controlled. Consider the historical context: Leverett made this during a time of increasing environmental awareness. Editor: That's a perspective I hadn't considered. It definitely gives a different weight to the title, "Summer." Curator: Indeed. The artist invites us to question not just what we see, but how power structures shape our perception.
