Carolina Onnen assembled this scrapbook page of gelatin silver prints as a memento of her travels. There’s a tactile quality to the faded photographs, each carefully chosen and glued onto the brown card, a bit like collage. You can imagine the arrangement as a kind of freehand process, where each image finds its place in relation to the others. Look closely, and you'll see Onnen's handwriting, a personal touch connecting these images to her experiences. Take for instance, the photograph labeled “Delphi Schatzkammer” - its grey tones and worn texture almost echo the ancient ruins themselves. The arrangement is an interplay of personal and historical. Onnen’s approach reminds me of artists like Gerhard Richter, who also explored the layering of personal memory and historical documentation. The scrapbook format is, in a sense, an embrace of ambiguity. It’s not about perfect clarity, but about the richness of travel and remembering.
