This untitled print, made by Jay Moon, shows us a landscape in shades of blue. It’s the kind of blue that makes you feel something, not just see something. The cool thing about printmaking is how the artist's hand is both present and absent. You can almost feel the pressure of the block on the paper, yet there's a distance, a mechanical reproduction that adds a layer of mystery. Look at the way the waves are rendered, like little scratches, each one unique but part of a larger pattern. It's this tension between the individual mark and the overall image that really gets me going. The color, that intense, almost melancholic blue, creates such an atmosphere, you get the sense of Turner, but with something of a punk zine feel. Art is just that, an echo chamber where ideas bounce around. It’s not about answers, but about the ongoing conversation.
