This blank page by Niels Larsen Stevns is just so… blank! I mean that in the best way possible. It is what it is; a space of possibility. I love the materiality here, you can almost smell the paper. Look at the slight discoloration of the page and the rough edge of the book. I can imagine Stevns running his hands along these surfaces. It’s tactile and real. What thoughts might this page have held, or maybe it was simply waiting. This reminds me of Agnes Martin’s subtle grids; the quiet power of the understated. Both artists seem to understand that sometimes, the most profound statement is the space we leave for ourselves. An invitation, perhaps, to fill the void with our own stories.
