Blank 1864 - 1941

This "Blank" artwork by Niels Larsen Stevns, whose date is unknown, it's kind of like looking at a painter’s studio before the painting begins. It's just a book, open to a blank page. The creamy, off-white of the paper feels warm, inviting. I love how the texture of the page isn't perfectly smooth, but has these subtle, almost imperceptible variations. You can almost smell the musty scent of old paper, you know? It's a reminder of the beauty in the bare bones of creation. What I find most interesting is the potential, the expectancy of what could be, it's like a drawing by Cy Twombly, but without any marks. I guess what I'm saying is that for me, art is all about process, the messy, imperfect act of making. And sometimes, the most powerful statement is the simplest one: a blank page, waiting to be filled.
