Małgorzata Serwatka made "Dauka 15" using what looks like mixed media on paper, creating an image that feels both familiar and dreamlike. I'm drawn to the way Serwatka uses line and color to define the form of this creature. The strokes are so insistent, creating texture. There's a beautiful tension between the solid blocks of color, like the orange background, and the intricate patterns that make up the lion. The layered lines around the lion's mane are particularly striking, almost like a kind of energetic halo. It reminds me a bit of Francis Bacon, not in the imagery but in the way the paint seems to convey a raw, emotional state. Both artists understand that painting isn't just about representation; it's about feeling, about capturing a fleeting moment of existence. And just like with Bacon, the real meaning of Serwatka's work remains wonderfully open to interpretation.
