This small silver coin, known as a "Hollandse penning", was minted in the Netherlands during the reign of Floris V, Count of Holland and Zeeland, between 1256 and 1258. Measuring only 1.2 centimeters in diameter, the coin depicts a stylized lion, a symbol of the House of Holland, surrounded by a decorative border. The coin is a significant example of early Dutch numismatics and serves as a testament to the artistic and political history of the region. The coin is now part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
