"Verhaal met voorstellingen van moord en doodstraf (F. 815.)" is an etching by Abraham Dircksz. Santvoort, a Dutch artist who was active in the 17th century. This 1667 print depicts a series of eight scenes in which a man is accused of murder and eventually sentenced to death. The print, now in the Rijksmuseum, is an example of Santvoort’s detailed, graphic style and his interest in the human condition. This small-format print, with its vivid depictions, would have been readily accessible to a broad audience, providing them with a glimpse into the dark reality of 17th century Dutch justice.
