Editor: Here we have Jason Limon’s mixed-media piece, *Lucky 13*, created in 2018. There's a surreal, almost dreamlike quality to it, a carefully constructed collage with this ornate hand taking center stage. It feels symbolic. How do you interpret this work, and what stands out to you the most? Curator: Oh, *Lucky 13*… Limon really invites us into a world of quiet whimsy here, doesn’t he? I find the work enchanting, the kind of piece that whispers secrets if you listen closely enough. The central image of the hand, overlaid with “FORTUNATE” and “LUCKY”, immediately evokes ideas of palmistry, destiny... Do you sense that as well? Editor: Definitely! The hand as a symbol is pretty powerful. The surrounding images, like the four-leaf clover or the little heart in a box... it feels like he's curating his own language of lucky charms. Curator: Precisely! And it's this juxtaposition of seemingly random yet meticulously placed imagery that gives it that wonderful surreal edge. But tell me, is there a slight discomfort that also arises, despite the theme of 'luck'? Like a charming Victorian haunted house... a blend of attraction and a little unease? Editor: I see what you mean. It's almost too perfect, which makes it a little unsettling, like a dollhouse you’re not supposed to touch. Curator: Right! And that tension is what keeps us looking. The title itself is a playful twist; thirteen being traditionally unlucky but here, perhaps, reframed. This feels so personal, so intuitive, and it's lovely. What I take away is how deeply personal interpretations of ‘luck’ can be. Each element, though somewhat universal in meaning, morphs once through the artist's lens... or even our own. Editor: That's a great point! Now I see that *Lucky 13* offers both a personal expression and a space for viewers to interpret its symbolism through their own perspectives on luck and destiny. It really puts the "you" in "fortune."
