Anders Bundgaard made this marble sculpture, Hidden Treasure, of a sitting nude girl, but when, I can't be sure. It’s all curves and smooth surfaces, a real caress of stone. What strikes me is the tension between the stillness of the marble and the vulnerability of the pose, and the way the stone has a certain yielding quality, as though it were clay, or warm flesh. Look at the way the light catches her face, so softly, and the way the folds of her body melt into each other. I'm reminded of Rodin, of course, but also of the Pre-Raphaelites, with their dreamy, sensual figures. What could that treasure be? Is it a thing, is it knowledge, is it the quiet knowledge of one’s own body? Maybe art’s treasure is that it never gives you one single, easy answer.
