This handwritten letter, ‘Brief aan Philip Zilcken’, comes from the hand of M.Ch. Faure, dated Paris, January 18, 1911. I can imagine the artist holding the pen, feeling the paper beneath his hand, as he lays down these strokes. The ink is a dark wash over the page, creating a sense of intimacy. The strokes and swirls of the handwriting, each curve and line, feel deeply personal and immediate. It's like the artist is right there with you, sharing his thoughts and feelings in the moment. I can see him considering each word, choosing each phrase, as he puts his pen to paper. He is so in touch with the rhythm and flow of the words, creating a sense of intimacy between the writer and the reader. I can imagine the way he pauses between each word. It reminds us that artists are constantly communicating with each other, across time and space, sharing ideas and inspiring new forms of creative expression. This artwork is such an original way of capturing a simple emotion, which can be interpreted in many different ways, and that’s what makes it so special.
