Rudolf de Crignis made this painting, #94048, with paint, probably oil or acrylic. I find myself wondering, what is he trying to do here? It looks like a monochrome, one colour, but look more closely. The surface is really worked; the paint is thin, and even. The colour is gorgeous: a dark, slightly greyish purple, and it's got a real depth. It feels like looking into the night sky, that infinite space and it’s inviting us to get lost. I’m reminded of Yves Klein. De Crignis is inviting us to really look and think about painting, about colour, and about what it means to take the time and consideration to really concentrate on something. In a world that is so full of noise and distraction, this feels like a great antidote.
