Rose Freymuth-Frazier made this little oil painting, Spring Morning, fairly recently. Look at the way the pinks and greens and blues are all scumbled together – that broken color effect is really nice, isn’t it? It's like she's building the image out of pure sensation. The painting has this lovely, soft texture, almost like velvet. You can see the way she's layered the paint, letting the colors peek through. There’s a real sense of light here, especially in the reflections on the water. That little dab of yellow in the water? It just vibrates. It reminds me a bit of Bonnard, with that intimate, domestic feeling, but also that attention to the way light transforms everything. What do you think? Art's just a big conversation, right?
