Rose Freymuth-Frazier made this painting, "Sunburst," and right away, I'm drawn to the way she's layered these colors, all soft and atmospheric. It’s like she’s built up this glowing world, one brushstroke at a time. Look at the sky – there's this band of turquoise peeking through the yellow and orange, just a sliver of cool against all that warmth. It feels almost like a release. You can see the way the paint is applied, not trying to hide the hand of the artist. It’s thick in some places, thin in others, and you can see the marks of the brush all over. The way she's captured the light reflecting off the water is masterful, with short flicks of the brush suggesting movement. This reminds me of the Hudson River School painters; I think Freymuth-Frazier is in conversation with them, taking their language but pushing it in her own direction. It’s a testament to how art keeps evolving, responding, and reinterpreting what came before.
