Judy Chicago made this print, Mary Queen of Scots, and it really pops with this wild radiating design! I love how the colors flow together, kinda like watercolors but with more oomph. You can tell she’s all about process because of the way these pastel colors melt into each other and create this groovy sunburst effect. Looking closer, it’s like she's airbrushing the colors. It gives this soft, dreamy texture, but there's a real structure too. Each stripe has its own vibe. It moves outwards from that warm yellow center to the more cool tones of pink, purple and blue at the edges, kinda like the stages of sunset. It gives the artwork this amazing sense of movement. For me, Judy Chicago’s work shares that same radical, experimental energy and a deep engagement with materials as someone like Lynda Benglis. With Chicago, you always get the feeling that anything is possible. Nothing is set in stone. That’s what keeps us coming back for more.
