Anne Truitt made this painted wood sculpture, "Insurrection," and just look at the way those colors push and pull. Truitt's work, like my own, is so much about the *doing*, the slow building of surfaces and forms through layers. Up close, you can see how the paint is applied – not to hide the wood, but to enhance it. The colors, a deep plum against a vibrant red, vibrate against each other, creating this visual tension. I love how these colors seem to bleed into one another, even though they're distinctly separate. This reminds me of some of Agnes Martin’s paintings, with their quiet, meditative surfaces. But where Martin’s work is ethereal, Truitt’s has a grounded physicality, a sense of presence that's really powerful. It's like a conversation, each artist adding their voice to this ongoing exploration of color, form, and feeling. It's all about keeping the dialogue going.
