Tankard
Listen to curator's interpretation
Curatorial notes
Editor: Here we have a tankard, probably for ale, created by William Shaw II. It's solid silver, and the craftsmanship makes me wonder about its original owner. What strikes you when you see it? Curator: Well, aside from imagining it filled with frothy ale, it speaks of status, doesn't it? Silver wasn't cheap. The engraved initials – do you see them? – whisper of family legacy, perhaps even secrets. It's a beautiful, tactile object, but also a symbol of a world long gone. Editor: So, it's more than just a fancy mug. Curator: Exactly! It’s a time capsule of taste, wealth, and maybe a good story or two waiting to be told. I wonder what kind of brew it held!
