Alfred Freddy Krupa made this evocative landscape, "At Dawn," with ink on paper. The limited palette is so interesting here - black, white, and shades of grey. It's a study in contrasts and how much you can do with so little. The artist's hand is all over this piece; you can feel the process. Look at the way the ink bleeds and pools, especially in the foreground. Those dark, luscious marks create a feeling of depth and mystery. And then, those white lines, scratched or drawn, that dance across the surface. They create the impression of trees and branches. Those lines on the left - are they rain, or just a feeling? This piece reminds me a little of some of Gerhard Richter’s grey paintings, but with a more raw, immediate feel. It's the kind of work that makes you want to grab some ink and paper and just start experimenting. Art is just a conversation, and this piece is part of it.
