Jean-Paul Jerome created "Le Récepteur de Lumière," an exploration of form and color. The dominant motif is the concentric arc, a symbol laden with significance across cultures. The arc, or semi-circle, appears as a vessel holding the fiery sun, and like the gates of ancient cities, it marks a symbolic threshold. We see it echoed in the halos of Renaissance Madonnas, representing divine grace. Yet, here, the arc is fragmented, deconstructed into bold lines and colors. It reminds me of the Ukiyo-e Japanese prints depicting "The Great Wave"; the arc is suggested, abstracted, and repurposed. The emotional power lies in its fragmented nature. It speaks to the subconscious, suggesting a journey, a cycle, but not a completed one. This is a dance between past and present, a rebirth. The viewer, then, is invited to complete the circle, to piece together the fragments of memory, imbuing it with new significance.
