Editor: This is an untitled photograph by Jack Gould, showing an aerial view of a highway snaking through a city. It feels almost clinical, a study of urban planning from above. What story do you think it’s trying to tell? Curator: It’s less a story and more a question, isn’t it? The starkness of the image invites us to consider our relationship with the constructed environment. The highway, so dominant, almost seems to dissect the city rather than connect it. Does it serve the people, or the other way around? Editor: So, it's less about celebrating progress and more about questioning its impact? Curator: Precisely. And perhaps even a quiet lament for what was lost in its creation, the homes and communities paved over for speed and supposed efficiency. Makes you wonder about the human cost, doesn’t it? Editor: It really does. I'll never look at a highway quite the same way again.
