This is a 5-cent coin from the prison in Ommerschans, produced by the Society of Benevolence (Maatschappij van Weldadigheid), a Dutch organization that advocated for prison reform, and is an example of the prison currency used at the penal colony in the first half of the 19th century. The coin, which is made of metal, is an example of numismatic art, which refers to the study and collection of coins and medals, and has a diameter of 4.2 centimeters and a weight of 3.39 grams. It was made in the Netherlands before 1830 and is now located in the Rijksmuseum.
