This small, 16th century bronze token, or jeton, depicts Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, in profile on one side. The other side shows a coat of arms with a cross and a date – 1546. It was likely made for the Council of Finance, a governing body in the Netherlands during Charles V's reign, as a token of currency or commemoration. The piece demonstrates the use of small-scale metalwork in the 16th century and offers a glimpse into the administrative functions of the time.
