Soledad Sevilla made this untitled piece, and for me, it is all about the dance between order and perception. The meticulous, repetitive pattern of interconnected shapes is immediately striking. It's like she's set up a system, a set of rules, and then let the drawing emerge from it. The subtle gradations of tone, the way the shapes seem to shift and undulate, create a kind of optical vibration. Each shape is carefully rendered, with delicate lines that define its form, but it's the cumulative effect that really grabs you. Your eye can't quite settle, it's always moving, searching for a fixed point. I'm reminded of Agnes Martin, in the quietness and the restraint, but Sevilla brings a different kind of energy to the grid, a sense of playful exploration. Ultimately, this piece feels like a reminder that art doesn't have to be loud or bombastic to be powerful, it can be found in the quiet, subtle spaces between things.
