Editor: So, this is Anni Albers’ “Triadic F,” a print of some kind, around 24 by 22 inches, and it’s just…triangles. Rows and rows of triangles! What do you see in this piece? Curator: I see Albers' deep engagement with weaving processes translated into printmaking. Look at how she uses the grid – a structure inherent to weaving – to organize these repeated triangular forms. It raises questions about the industrial production of textiles versus the handcraft. Editor: So it’s about the tension between art and craft? Curator: Precisely. Albers is blurring those boundaries by using industrial methods to create something that echoes the patterns and textures of handwoven textiles. It makes you consider the labor involved in both processes. Editor: I hadn't thought about it that way. Thanks! Curator: My pleasure! It's all about the making and what that making represents.
