This little -Goody Bank- still bank was made by an anonymous maker, and, well, what did they make it with? Probably some industrial printing process, ink and metal, and a whole lot of hope. I love the kid in the sailor suit, framed by those neo-classical columns, holding another tiny Goody Bank! It’s like one of those infinite reflections, where the image repeats itself within itself. You know, anonymous artists are some of my favorites. I think about how this bank might have come into being, passed from hand to hand, maybe even filled up with real money by some adorable child. It reminds me of when I was a kid and my parents bought me a paint-by-numbers kit. It taught me a very important lesson, that anyone can make an image; maybe not a great image, or a profound one, but an image nonetheless. Maybe that’s why I’m so interested in process. For me, it’s all about that endless exchange of ideas and inspiration between artists across time.
