Quinton d'Amore 1755

This 18th-century viola da gamba, crafted by Mathurin-François Remy, is a beautiful example of a Baroque musical instrument. The instrument's design features a carved human head at the end of the neck, a detail common to string instruments of this period. The viola da gamba, known for its rich and resonant tone, was popular throughout the 17th and 18th centuries and played an important role in Baroque chamber music. This particular instrument is housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
